New Delhi: India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma has resumed net practice ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Australia, scheduled in October Down Under.

Rohit shared a video on Instagram showing him in action in the nets, playing fluent shots and enjoying his time back on the field. “I am here again, it feels really good,” he said, expressing his excitement about returning to training.

The 38-year-old opener looked in good touch and fitter than before, a positive sign for India as they prepare for the challenging tour. Rohit had announced his retirement from Test cricket in May, ahead of India’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 tour of England. Between 2013 and 2025, he played 67 Tests, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His peak success as a Test opener came between 2019 and 2024, when he became India’s leading WTC run-scorer, amassing 2,716 runs in 40 Tests at an average of 41.15, with nine centuries and eight fifties.

Alongside Virat Kohli, who has also retired from T20Is and Tests, Rohit will now focus on the three-match ODI series against Australia starting October 19.

The ‘Hitman’ remains one of India’s all-time greats in ODIs, having scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches at an average of 48.76 and a strike rate of 92.80, including 32 centuries and 58 fifties, making him India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in the format. He also boasts an impressive record in Australia, scoring 1,328 runs in 30 matches at an average of 53.12, with five centuries, four fifties, and a best score of 171.
