Srinagar: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday booked a fraudster for impersonating senior government officers to dupe people with fake job offers, officials said.

The accused, identified as Illyas Hameed Bhat of Bakura, Ganderbal, had previously been booked in a similar case at Nishat police station, they added.

Investigations revealed that Bhat posed as a deputy superintendent of the National Investigation Agency, an administrator at Kashmir University, and a senior officer of the Enforcement Directorate to cheat individuals in exchange for money. He also forged documents, including appointment letters and identity cards.

Following a court warrant, police raided his residence and seized incriminating material, including fake job orders and IDs.

A fresh FIR has been registered against him at Ganderbal police station.
