SRINAGAR: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Srinagar Zone, has busted a major drug smuggling racket in south Kashmir, seizing over 10.7 kg of charas and arresting three accused.

Officials said the operation, based on specific intelligence, was carried out in Bijbehara, Anantnag district, on August 19. It led to the recovery of 10.735 kg of charas — one of the largest hauls of the year.

The arrested have been identified as Firdous of Bijbehara, Anantnag; Jan Mohammad Baba of Lal Bazar, Srinagar; and Mohammad Lateef of Srigufwara, Anantnag. NCB said Firdous and Jan Mohammad were previously booked in NDPS cases by local police and NCB Jammu.

Investigations revealed that the seized contraband had been procured from Lateef, who also played a role in its planned inter-state transport through illegal networks.

The agency said the operation highlights the growing role of NCB Srinagar, set up under the Centre’s strategy to strengthen the fight against narcotics in J&K.

“NCB remains committed to dismantling drug networks, safeguarding youth from their impact, and ensuring stronger inter-agency coordination across the Union Territory,” the statement said.
