Jammu: Eight individuals, including directors of two private companies and a government employee, have been booked for allegedly defrauding residents of over ₹3 crore, officials from the Crime Branch said on Sunday.

One of the accused, a health department employee, allegedly secured his job using a fake qualification certificate, they added.

The action follows multiple complaints, including one from Guninder Jeet Singh Wazir of Trikuta Nagar, who alleged that directors of Shreekatyani Metal Pvt Ltd — Nitin Gupta and Nidhi Gupta of Delhi, and Nitin Maheshwari of Ghaziabad — caused him a wrongful loss of ₹2.64 crore.

In another case, Sanjeev Mahajan of Jammu accused Nishaan Singh, proprietor of Sanbun Investments in Delhi, of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of ₹35 lakh.

Separately, notorious fraudsters Saroop Lal of Bari Brahmana and Ashish Bhandari of Jammu were booked for allegedly duping two Akhnoor residents of ₹12.3 lakh by providing fake forest department job orders. Both have several previous FIRs against them, police said.

Another case was registered against Sohan Lal of Arnia for allegedly securing employment as a dental technician in the health department with a forged matriculation certificate. Swarn Singh of Treva village, accused of arranging the fake certificate, has also been named in the FIR.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Crime), Benam Tosh, confirmed that four cases were registered after preliminary inquiries and further investigation is underway.
