JAMMU: The Legal Metrology Enforcement Jammu has fined a Delhi-based hardware manufacturer ₹1 lakh for breaching mandatory labeling and packaging regulations under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

An inspection revealed that the manufacturer had not provided complete and accurate declarations on pre-packed construction-related commodities, violating legal norms designed to ensure transparency and protect consumers from misleading information.

After issuing a show-cause notice and receiving the company’s acknowledgment of the lapse, the Department imposed a ₹1 lakh penalty on the trader.

The Legal Metrology Department has urged all businesses to comply strictly with statutory requirements and ensure that only genuine products with accurate labeling are sold in the market. It emphasized its commitment to fair trade practices and confirmed that enforcement drives will continue to prevent such violations.

Consumers have also been advised to stay alert and insist on properly labeled products while making purchases.
