Calls for Maximum Youth Participation in Lifesaving Blood Donation Drives
SRINAGAR: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today highlighted the crucial role of blood donation drives, describing them as “a lifeline that can save countless lives during emergencies, medical procedures, and natural disasters.”
The Minister made these remarks while addressing a Blood Donation & Wellness Camp at Gindun Stadium, Rajbagh, organized by Team Red NGO in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) and SKIMS Soura. The event was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Pardesi, Secretary JKSC, healthcare professionals, Team Red NGO members, and a large gathering of youth.

In her address, Minister Itoo emphasized the vital importance of regular blood donation, calling it not only a noble act of charity but also a civic duty that strengthens the healthcare system. She urged greater public awareness and participation, appealing to individuals, corporate entities, and community organizations to actively support such initiatives. She stressed the need for drives to be conducted across the valley, involving educational institutions at district and block levels.
“Every unit of blood donated can be the difference between life and death for a patient in critical need,” the Minister said, encouraging citizens, particularly youth, to overcome apprehensions and contribute to this selfless cause.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare facilities, she noted that the administration is dedicated to supporting and facilitating such efforts. She added that strengthening medical care at the grassroots level remains a top priority of the Omar Abdullah-led government, which has recently expanded medical services at both block and district levels.
Minister Itoo also praised the organizers for hosting the Blood Donation and Wellness Camp and called for sustained collective efforts to build a healthier, more responsible society.
