Doha: Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani affirmed that Israel’s recent strike on Doha will not hinder ongoing mediation efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to end the conflict in Gaza, the Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Al-Thani made the remarks Sunday during a preparatory meeting with foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries ahead of an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Monday to address the Israeli attack, Xinhua news agency cited QNA. The ministers reviewed a draft statement regarding Israel’s Tuesday airstrike on a Doha residential building that housed several Hamas leaders.

During the discussions, Al-Thani emphasized that lasting peace and security in the region cannot be achieved unless the Palestinian people secure their legitimate rights.

Israel’s unprecedented airstrike targeted a building where Hamas officials were meeting to discuss the latest U.S. ceasefire proposal. The attack followed a claim by Hamas’ al-Qassam Brigades for a shooting at a bus stop near Jerusalem on Monday that killed six people.

The strike killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer, though key members of the Hamas negotiating team survived. Doha strongly condemned the attack, with Al-Thani describing it as “state terror” in an interview with CNN.

“I have no words to express how enraged we are by such an action… This is state terror. We are betrayed,” he said.
