NEW DELHI: The government has reopened the application window for the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for white goods—air conditioners (ACs) and LED lights—for 30 days, according to an official statement on Sunday.

The window will be open from September 15 to October 14.

“The application window for the PLI Scheme for White Goods is being reopened in response to industry interest in making additional investments under the scheme,” said the Commerce and Industry Ministry.

No applications will be accepted once the window closes.

To ensure fairness, both new applicants and existing beneficiaries looking to invest more—either by moving to a higher target segment or through their group companies under a different segment—are eligible to apply, subject to certain conditions. Applicants will receive incentives only for the remainder of the scheme’s tenure.

Under the proposed fourth round, approved applicants will be eligible for PLI for a maximum of two years. This applies to new applicants and existing beneficiaries opting for GP-2 (gestation period) and seeking to shift to a higher investment category.

So far, 83 applicants with committed investments of Rs 10,406 crore have been selected as beneficiaries under the PLI scheme.

The investments are expected to boost manufacturing of AC and LED light components across the entire value chain, including components not currently produced in sufficient quantities in India.

The Union Cabinet approved the scheme on April 7, 2021. It is designed to run over a seven-year period (FY 2021-22 to FY 2028-29) with an outlay of Rs 6,238 crore.
