Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Monday announced the bust of a cross-border weapons smuggling module with links to Pakistan, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that Fazilka Police acted on a specific tip-off to dismantle the module. Two suspects, reportedly backed by foreign handlers, were taken into custody, and authorities recovered five foreign-made pistols along with nine magazines, he said in a post on X.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the weapons were sourced from Pakistan through a foreign-based entity for use by criminal gangs operating in Punjab. The arrested accused — Surinder Singh and Gurpreet — were attempting to hand over these arms to ground operatives of local criminal groups under instructions from their foreign handlers,” Yadav added.
An FIR under the Arms Act has been registered at the Sadar Police Station in Fazilka. The DGP confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the entire network, including its upstream and downstream connections.
