Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch has arrested a notorious fraudster in a high-profile impersonation and financial fraud case.

According to officials, the accused has been identified as Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kupwara. He was apprehended in connection with FIR No. 10/2025, registered under relevant provisions of law.

The case originated from a written complaint alleging that Mir had posed as a Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and deceitfully promised government jobs and land allotments at SDA Colony, Bemina, Srinagar. Under this pretext, he allegedly collected over ₹50 lakh from unsuspecting victims.

During the investigation, it was found that the accused had issued fake appointment letters, purportedly from the Airport Authority of India, and also forged land allotment documents claimed to be from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA)—actions amounting to serious criminal misconduct.

Based on the evidence, charges under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC were invoked. Mir was presented before the Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Srinagar, which granted the EOW five days of police remand for further investigation.

The Crime Branch Kashmir reiterated its commitment to bringing economic offenders to justice and urged the public to remain alert against such fraudulent activities.
