SRINAGAR: PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Tuesday met Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to highlight the “crisis” confronting the Union Territory’s apple industry due to the prolonged closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The highway has been blocked for several weeks following heavy rains and flash floods, leaving fruit-laden trucks stranded and raising fears of significant losses among growers.
Earlier, apple growers and traders in Kashmir protested against the highway closure, citing government inaction.
Mufti tweeted, “Called on Hon’ble L-G Manoj Sinha ji to apprise him of the severe crisis crippling Jammu and Kashmir’s apple industry owing to the shutdown of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.” She added that Sinha assured her that efforts would be made to restore smooth truck movement and prevent further losses.
