SRINAGAR: Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana on Monday held a meeting with senior officials of the Jal Shakti Department to address persistent water supply issues in Habbakadal Constituency and surrounding areas.

Rana stressed the need for immediate and sustained measures to improve water distribution and service delivery. He directed officials to prepare and implement a structured water supply roster to ensure timely and predictable delivery across the constituency.

To provide immediate relief in water-stressed areas, the Minister ordered the installation of ten new hand pumps, particularly in localities where piped water supply remains irregular. He also highlighted the importance of upgrading critical water infrastructure, including ageing pipelines, pump stations, and filtration systems.

Reaffirming the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to enhancing urban water services in Jammu & Kashmir, Rana instructed officials to identify bottlenecks and submit a phased plan for infrastructure modernization to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply.

The meeting also approved the construction of a new water reservoir in Habbakadal to boost storage capacity and strengthen water security. In response to recent flood damage, the Minister called for the immediate desiltation and restoration of ghats at Nawakadal and Alikadal.

MLA Habbakadal, Shamim Firdous, raised local residents’ concerns regarding recurring water shortages and infrastructure damage caused by the floods.
