Jammu: Police on Tuesday said an alleged criminal has been detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district.
Sharafat Ali, a resident of Lohai-Malhar, was taken into custody and lodged in Udhampur district jail under PSA orders. “Ali is a habitual offender involved in multiple unlawful activities over the years. To curb his repeated offences, a dossier was prepared and submitted to the Kathua District Magistrate, who approved his detention under the PSA,” a police spokesperson said.
In a separate action, two drug peddlers identified as Abhinandan Singh and Amit Sangra of Kootah village were arrested in the Hiranagar sector after police recovered 5.47 grams of heroin from their possession during checking on Railway Road.
Both have been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to uncover their links in the narcotics supply chain, police added.
