Google Pixel Battery Issues Continue with Pixel 7 Series
Battery problems have become a recurring challenge for Google Pixel phones, and the company appears to be facing yet another round with its Pixel 7 series. Following similar issues in the Pixel 4a and 6a models—where batteries swelled—users are now reporting problems with Pixel 7 devices. Google has actively supported older Pixel models in the past, even offering free battery replacements in recent weeks, and it may need to repeat the process for the Pixel 7 series, now over three generations old.
Pixel 7 Battery Concerns
According to a report from Android Authority, multiple Pixel 7 users have experienced battery swelling, creating potentially hazardous situations. In some Pixel 7 Pro units, the side panel has started to separate due to the expanding battery. Others have reported unexpected shutdowns even when the device is fully charged.
Google’s support responses have been inconsistent. Some users have received free battery replacements or repairs, while others were only offered partial support, especially for out-of-warranty devices. This is notable because the company previously responded proactively to Pixel 4a and 6a battery issues.
Previous Pixel Battery Issues
The Pixel 6a battery problems first surfaced in June, following earlier concerns with the Pixel 4a. Google had offered free battery replacements for affected units and required a software update for Pixel 6a devices to limit battery capacity and charging speed once the device reached 400 charge cycles. This update was designed to prevent overheating and related safety issues.
Users eligible for a new battery could also receive compensation of Rs 8,500. However, Google clarified that devices with liquid damage or significant physical dents would not qualify for free battery replacements.
