NEW DELHI: Travellers booking train tickets on the MakeMyTrip app can now order meals from over 40,000 Zomato-listed restaurants at more than 130 stations, the NASDAQ-listed travel tech platform announced on Wednesday. The initiative is part of MakeMyTrip’s new ‘Food on Train’ offering in collaboration with Zomato.

In FY 2024-25, over 90,000 rail passengers used Indian Railways’ e-catering services daily, reflecting a 66% year-on-year growth. MakeMyTrip said it is well-positioned to tap into this growing demand by offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and quick snacks, supported by its proprietary ‘Live Train Status’ tool.

“With the launch of our Food on Train Marketplace, we are enhancing the travel experience by giving passengers greater choice and convenience,” said Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Business Officer (Flights, GCC, Corporate Travel) & Chief Marketing Officer at MakeMyTrip. “This collaboration with Zomato will strategically unlock one of the fastest-growing consumption opportunities in India’s mobility ecosystem.”

The initial response to the soft launch has been encouraging, showing a clear preference for travel-friendly meals. MakeMyTrip plans to roll out targeted campaigns to further promote its on-train food delivery service.

Rahul Gupta, VP – Product at Zomato, added, “This partnership enables train passengers to conveniently order meals from their favourite restaurants via MakeMyTrip, with direct delivery to their seats. We’re excited about the value this brings to our customers.”

To celebrate Diwali, travellers booking rail journeys on MakeMyTrip will also receive a complimentary coupon redeemable on Zomato food orders.
