Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday extended greetings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday, crediting his dedication with bringing about a “huge transformation” in the country over the past decade.
“Today is Modi ji’s birthday. The entire country will observe Sewa Parv from September 17 to October 2 — from Modi ji’s birthday to Gandhi ji’s birthday. The Jammu and Kashmir administration is also participating in this campaign with full dedication,” Sinha told reporters in Srinagar.
He said India had witnessed fast economic growth under Modi, with benefits reaching the poor and rural population. “As a result, India is now the world’s fourth-largest economy and over 25 crore people have come out of poverty,” he noted. Sinha also said India’s global standing had risen significantly during Modi’s tenure.
“We pray that he lives for a hundred years and continues to serve the nation with devotion,” the LG added. To mark the occasion, Sinha distributed fruits among patients at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also wished the Prime Minister on his birthday, writing on X: “Wishing the Hon PM @narendramodi Sb a very happy 75th birthday. May he be blessed with good health & a long life in the service of our nation & all its citizens.”
Celebrations were also held at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk, where poet Jamal Ali Karbalai, also known as Jamal Budgami from Budgam, garlanded a life-size cutout of the Prime Minister near the iconic clock tower and offered sweets. Karbalai, who heads the self-styled All India Modi Fans Association, has previously marked Modi’s birthday in unique ways, including adorning his cutout with a traditional Kashmiri pheran on International Pheran Day.
