KATHUA: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the Central Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen health infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He announced that Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua is now equipped with chemotherapy and radiation facilities in collaboration with Tata Cancer Institute, providing significant relief to cancer patients in the region.
Speaking at a programme in Nagri, Kathua, held as part of the nationwide launch of Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivaar and the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Madhya Pradesh, Dr. Singh emphasized that women’s health remains a top priority. He noted that health camps across the country are offering diagnostics, screenings, and awareness initiatives, with a special focus on women.
The live broadcast of the nationwide launch was also viewed at CHC Parole, where citizens, public representatives, and officials participated enthusiastically. On the occasion, Dr. Singh administered the Swachhta Pledge, reaffirming a collective commitment to cleanliness and community service.
Later, he visited Government Higher Secondary School, distributing rations and shawls to local women, and providing school children with bags, lunch boxes, and water bottles, highlighting the campaign’s focus on comprehensive support for women and children.
Dr. Singh also underscored government initiatives to promote livelihood opportunities, noting that Khadi is creating new avenues for employment and self-reliance. He encouraged youth to embrace modern textile practices, support Vocal for Local, and contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
The district-level launch saw strong participation, with over 330 patients registered via a mobile application to receive free consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines. Activities included health screenings for schoolgirls, nutrition demonstrations by ICDS, AYUSH services, and food adulteration detection camps.
Schools and colleges organized cleanliness drives, debates, essay competitions, and awareness rallies centered on Sewa, Swachhta, and Poshan. Youth clubs and NSS units actively promoted sanitation and healthy living within campuses and nearby communities.
Government offices also held cleanliness drives, with staff pledging to maintain clean and citizen-friendly workplaces. Additional initiatives included plantation drives and awareness sessions on water conservation and hygiene.
The event was attended by MLA Kathua Dr. Bharat Bhushan, DC Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Vice Chairman DDC Raghunandan Singh, ADC Kathua Vishavjeet Singh, Principal GMC Kathua Dr. Surinder Attri, and CMO Dr. Vijay Raina.
