Amritsar: In a joint operation, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) arrested a narco-smuggler near Beharwal village in Amritsar on Wednesday, recovering a major consignment of drugs and arms.
According to the BSF PRO, the operation was based on specific intelligence. A motorcycle rider was intercepted and detained, who was later identified as a local smuggler. From his possession, officials seized a large bag containing 23 packets of suspected heroin weighing 25.9 kg, along with a pistol, two magazines, a mobile phone, and the motorcycle itself. The contraband is believed to have been dropped by a drone from across the border.
The accused, a resident of Beharwal village, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to ANTF Amritsar for further legal action.
Meanwhile, the BSF conducted three other successful operations along the Punjab border, arresting four individuals and seizing drugs, arms, and a drone.
On Sunday night, BSF troops, acting on intelligence, laid an ambush between Palla Megha and Kilche villages in Ferozepur. They apprehended one individual and recovered a pistol with three live rounds, 45 grams of narcotics, ₹19,480 in cash, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle. The accused hails from Kamlewala village in Ferozepur.
In another incident along the Amritsar border, BSF personnel, while monitoring drone activity, apprehended three suspects near Mode village. They are currently being questioned to determine their involvement and possible cross-border links.
On Monday morning, BSF troops deployed near Nesta village in Amritsar recovered a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone along with a packet of heroin weighing 576 grams from farmland.
Earlier this month, BSF foiled several smuggling attempts in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur districts, arresting three smugglers and seizing heroin and drones. Among these, one suspected smuggler was caught near Kalsian village in Tarn Taran with 560 grams of heroin.
