Jammu Police Register FIR in Sainik Colony Firing Case Initially Reported as Road Accident
Jammu: Jammu Police on Thursday formally registered a case in connection with a firing incident in Sainik Colony last month, which was earlier reported as a road traffic accident (RTA).
The FIR was filed after investigations revealed that the injuries sustained by three women were not accidental but the result of a targeted shooting.
Officials said the victims — Mehjabeen Akil Sheikh (30), daughter of Akil Sheikh, resident of West Malad, Mumbai; her sister Fatima Akhil (21); and Jaspreet Kour (28), resident of Ludhiana, Punjab — were living in a rented accommodation at House No. 157, Sector A, Sainik Colony, Jammu.
On August 21, 2025, the women were initially admitted to JK Medicity Hospital, reportedly as victims of a road accident. They were later moved to ASCOMS Batra Hospital and then referred to GMC Jammu, where Mehjabeen tragically succumbed to her injuries.
An inquest proceeding (DD No. 29 dated 30/08/2025) was initiated at Police Station Channi. During the investigation, however, police discovered that the women had been fired upon inside their residence by an unknown assailant, who fled the scene immediately afterward.
“The incident was deliberately disguised as a road accident by the injured individuals,” police sources said.
Following these revelations, FIR No. 152/2025 has been registered under Sections 103(1), 109, and 332(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified suspect.
Police are actively investigating the case to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
