Barabanki (UP): Seventy-five silver coins were unearthed during the demolition of a house in the Lodheshwar Mahadeva area of Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh, triggering a clash among labourers, police said on Friday.

The coins were seized by authorities and are set to be sent to the Archaeological Department for examination. According to police, the coins were discovered in an earthen pot at Jai Narayan Gupta’s house on Thursday evening.

Workers present at the site said tensions arose immediately after the coins were found during the digging, leading to a scuffle and drawing a large crowd. Mahadeva police outpost in-charge Abhinandan Pandey arrived with a team to restore order.

Officials confirmed that 75 silver coins were recovered from the site. Naib Tehsildar Vijay Prakash Tiwari and SHO of Ramnagar Anil Kumar Pandey also visited the outpost, took possession of the coins, and completed the necessary formalities before sending them to the Archaeological Department for further investigation.

Preliminary reports suggest that the coins date back to the era of Queen Victoria and King George V. Hari Narayan Gupta, the landowner, stated that all 75 coins were recovered from the labourers.
