Doda: Acting on the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the district administration conducted a market inspection drive in Doda town on Friday to curb the sale of unsafe meat.

The inspection was held on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner Anil Kumar Thakur. A joint team from the Food Safety Department, Legal Metrology, FCS&CA, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Municipality, and Sales Tax Department inspected nearly 20 meat shops, dhabas, and other related establishments.

Officials checked hygiene standards, quality of meat, and compliance with legal provisions. No rotten or unsafe meat was found during the drive. However, 12 improvement notices were issued to meat sellers for strengthening hygiene practices.

The Legal Metrology Department imposed a fine of ₹5,000 for violations, while the FCS&CA Department penalized two traders with ₹800 for using domestic LPG cylinders commercially.

The district administration reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safe, hygienic, and quality food for residents, warning that regular inspections will continue and strict action will be taken against violators.
