Udhampur: Security has been intensified in Udhampur district, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, after an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Seoj Dhar area, officials said on Saturday.
The gunfight began around 8 p.m. on Friday when troops of the Army’s White Knight Corps made contact with a group of terrorists near the Doda-Udhampur border. The operation, still underway, involves joint teams of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG).
“On actionable intelligence, contact established with terrorists at Seoj Dhar. Encounter in progress,” Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Anand Jain posted on X.
According to police, terrorists were spotted in the dense forest area, prompting security forces to cordon off the region. An exchange of fire followed, leaving one soldier injured.
Additional reinforcements, along with choppers and drones, have been deployed for aerial surveillance. Officials believe two to three Pakistani terrorists may be trapped in the area.
Earlier this month, on September 9, security forces concluded ‘Operation Gudder’ in Kulgam, killing two hardcore Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives — Rahman, a Pakistani national, and Amir Ahmed Dar of Shopian’s Daramdora. A cache of arms, ammunition, and other warlike stores was also recovered.
