UDHAMPUR: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today conducted a thorough inspection of the damaged stretch of National Highway (NH-44) at Thard to assess the progress of ongoing restoration works and traffic management.
He was accompanied by IGP Traffic, Regional Officer NHAI, SSP Udhampur, SSP Traffic NHW, Additional District Development Commissioner, and other officials from the civil administration, police, and NHAI.
During the visit, the Divisional Commissioner reviewed restoration activities, including road widening, laying of Water Bound Macadam (WBM), construction of an additional lane for smoother vehicular movement, and the repair of the second tube of NH-44. He was also briefed on the current single-lane traffic arrangement along the stretch.
The Div Com personally monitored traffic flow and directed NHAI authorities to expedite the restoration works for the convenience of commuters. He inquired about the daily vehicle movement on NH-44 and instructed the concerned officers to create an additional lane using stone to ensure uninterrupted passage.
He emphasized that NHAI must prioritize the restoration of the 300-metre damaged stretch and maintain smooth traffic flow. Additionally, he instructed the Traffic Department to strictly regulate movement along NH-44 and urged executing agencies to deploy sufficient manpower and machinery to complete the works on time.
