JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today chaired a meeting to review the functioning of the Social Welfare Department and the implementation of various welfare schemes across the district.
Pankaj Anand, Programme Officer of Integrated Child Development Services, delivered a detailed presentation on the department’s activities. Dr. Minhas was briefed on the implementation of key schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Ladli Beti Scheme, Mission Poshan, and the operations of Anganwadi Centres.
The Deputy Commissioner issued directions for immediate measures to strengthen service delivery under these initiatives. He emphasized the need to enhance the functioning of Anganwadis and suggested strategies for improved monitoring and outreach.
District Social Welfare Officer, Nawaz Sharif, highlighted the progress under Integrated Social Security Schemes and provided updates on other flagship programs, including the provision of prosthetic aids, State Marriage Assistance Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana. Dr. Minhas directed officers to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are effectively covered under these schemes.
The meeting also reviewed the functioning of statutory bodies such as the Juvenile Justice Board and discussed interventions for children in street situations.
The session was attended by Chief Planning Officer Ajaypal Singh, along with Tehsil Social Welfare Officers and Child Development Project Officers.
