Jammu: The Union Territory of Ladakh is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by a focus on modern governance, renewable energy, and people-centric development, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta said on Sunday.
Addressing the Lead Impact Conclave here, he emphasized that education, healthcare, and tourism remain the top priorities of his administration.
“Since becoming a Union Territory in 2019, Ladakh has witnessed remarkable growth, with a commitment to sustainable and inclusive governance,” Gupta stated.
He highlighted Ladakh’s transformation through initiatives such as renewable energy adoption, paperless governance, and modern administrative reforms, positioning the region as a model for other states and Union Territories.
“Our goal is to make Ladakh a benchmark for balanced development, where economic progress aligns with our cultural values and fragile ecosystem,” he added.
The LG underscored his administration’s efforts to provide quality education, enhance healthcare infrastructure, and promote tourism as a key driver of livelihoods, particularly for youth.
Gupta also spotlighted the recently launched ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ campaign, aimed at improving women’s health and overall family well-being through awareness programs, health screenings, and timely medical access. “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensure every family in Ladakh has access to quality healthcare,” he said.
Stressing the importance of cooperative development, Gupta said, “We are promoting cooperatives, empowering Self-Help Groups, and connecting local producers with broader markets to create sustainable livelihoods and ensure growth benefits reach every household.”
Referring to Ladakh’s cultural heritage, he added, “Pashmina is our pride. With the GI tag, artisans—especially women—are gaining recognition and improving their incomes.”
Commending the spirit of the conclave, Gupta said such platforms unite citizens, NGOs, businesses, and institutions to collectively advance the region’s development.
“We will not just make plans; we will implement them. We aim to turn ideas into action, making Ladakh a land of hope and opportunity, where development is inclusive, modern, and environmentally responsible,” he concluded.
Social entrepreneurs, civil society members, and representatives from various sectors attended the conclave, expressing their commitment to Ladakh’s growth.
