In a significant boost to infrastructure development, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has approved 110 new road projects in the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-4), Batch-1 (2025-26). According to Akashvani Jammu, the initiatives, with an estimated cost of ₹2,000 crore, aim to provide all-weather road connectivity to 178 habitations across the region.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, sanctioned the projects and conveyed the approvals in a communication to Union Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh. Dr. Singh expressed his gratitude to the Centre, highlighting that these projects would greatly enhance accessibility and ease of travel for rural communities.

He added that since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office in 2014, the constituency—long overlooked in development planning—has been given priority under various schemes. “Udhampur district has consistently ranked among the top three districts in the country in terms of PMGSY road projects,” Dr. Singh noted, adding that further projects are anticipated.

The newly sanctioned roads are expected to strengthen rural connectivity while also promoting economic growth, improving access to healthcare, and expanding educational opportunities in the region’s remote areas.
