Jammu: Lieutenant General P K Mishra, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the White Knight Corps, on Monday reviewed ongoing anti-terror operations in the hilly regions of Udhampur, Doda, and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir, following recent encounters with terrorists, officials said.
A major search operation has been underway since Friday evening in the Seoj Dhar forest, which connects Dudu-Basantgarh in Udhampur district with Bhaderwah in Doda district, after a soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists. Simultaneously, another operation was launched in the Keshwan forest of Kishtwar district following a brief encounter on Sunday afternoon, officials added.
Accompanied by Major General A P S Bal, GOC of the counter-insurgency force Delta, the corps commander flew over Seoj Dhar in a helicopter on Monday morning to assess the ongoing operations, officials said.
Though there has been no further contact with the terrorists after the initial skirmishes in Seoj Dhar and Keshwan forests, helicopters were observed hovering over the dense forests, which remain encircled by joint teams of the Army, Police, and CRPF conducting combing operations. Drones and sniffer dogs have also been deployed to assist in tracking and neutralising the terrorists.
Meanwhile, security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Malhar area of Kathua district after receiving intelligence about the suspected movement of two terrorists. The operation is ongoing, but no trace of the suspects has been found so far, officials said.
