Mumbai: Actors Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam are set to bring to life the gripping true story from the 1980s, centered on the landmark Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum case.

The teaser for the film, titled ‘HAQ’, has been released, giving audiences a glimpse of the courtroom drama as Shah Bano Begum fights for her rights and justice.

Hashmi and Gautam play the lead roles of Mohd. Ahmed Khan and Shah Bano Begum, portraying a fierce legal confrontation.

The teaser opens with Hashmi’s character criticizing Yami, calling her an irresponsible wife. Yami fires back: “My fight is just for one thing – my rights.”

As the story unfolds, the teaser highlights how the case captured national attention, stirring tension and debate across the country. It also showcases the lead pair standing boldly against each other in court.

“I am not just a Muslim woman, but a Muslim woman of India. I belong to this country. Hence, the law should treat me the same way it treats other women of the nation,” Yami’s character passionately appeals in court.

According to the makers, the film draws inspiration from the Supreme Court judgment in Mohd. Ahmed Khan vs Shah Bano Begum. “Shazia Bano takes her husband Abbas to court after he abandons her and their children, igniting a national debate on faith, women’s rights, and justice. HAQ tells the story of one woman’s fight for her rights,” they stated.

Directed by Suparn S. Varma, the film also features Vartika Singh, Danish Husain, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady in pivotal roles.

Produced under Junglee Pictures by Vineet Jain, Vishal Gurnani, Juhi Parekh Mehta, and Harman Baweja, HAQ is scheduled to release in theatres on November 7, 2025.
