Mumbai: Legendary actor Anupam Kher’s directorial venture Tanvi The Great is set to return to theatres on September 26. Kher shared a heartfelt video highlighting the significance of second chances in both life and cinema.
Taking to Instagram, he said, “Namaste friends, I believe in second chances a lot. Sometimes, in life, a second chance can be even better than the first. Many may not know that life gave me a second chance even before my film career began.”
Kher recalled being removed from Mahesh Bhatt’s 1984 film Saaransh just ten days before shooting, with Sanjeev Kumar stepping in to replace him.
“I was working on Saaransh and got fired ten days before shooting. Sanjeev Kumar sir was hired instead. I went to Mahesh Bhatt sahab, argued with him, and said, ‘You are making a film about truth. I have been rehearsing for six months—how can you fire me now?’ I fought, I cried, and eventually, I got my second chance. Today, I have been in films for 40 years and have done nearly 500–550 films,” Kher added.
Tanvi The Great, which revolves around the Indian Army and autism, tells the story of a young girl (Shubhangi Dutt) living with her mother and grandfather (Anupam Kher). Inspired by her late father, she aspires to join the armed forces.
The film also stars Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen. Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC, it has garnered international acclaim during festival screenings in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston, receiving standing ovations at special previews at the National Defence Academy and the Southern Command in Pune.
On the film’s re-release, Kher said, “This film celebrates the Army, family bonds, and the strength of a mother raising her autistic daughter. It’s a story about goodness, brotherhood, and resilience. With brilliant music by M.M. Keeravani and an amazing cast including Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swamy, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, and Iain Glen, this film deserves another chance. We are releasing it again on September 26 in 17 cities.”
He captioned his post: “TANVI THE GREAT IS BACK IN THEATRES. Second chances matter… because they let us relive Courage, Hope, and Inspiration. Experience the return of #TanviTheGreat – 26th September in limited theatres!”
In line with his film’s theme, Anupam Kher also launched his book Different But No Less in July, with notable attendees including Mahesh Bhatt, Boman Irani, Gajraj Rao, Shubhangi Dutt, author Amish Tripathi, and Kher’s mother.
