Kulgam: Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakina Itoo, on Wednesday reaffirmed the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare and safeguarding Kashmir’s horticulture sector, while ensuring development benefits reach people directly.

Inaugurating a newly built health centre worth ₹2.71 crore at Aravani village, Itoo said, “From new hospitals to MRI and cath labs, our focus is on improving patient care and bringing facilities to people’s doorsteps.”

Responding to former CM Mehbooba Mufti’s allegation that the government has “broken the back” of fruit growers, she stressed, “Horticulture is the backbone of Kashmir’s economy. The current challenges are a result of past neglect and flawed policies. We are determined to protect and strengthen this vital sector.”

Itoo also called for an inquiry into development works executed after 2018, noting that even light rainfall damages roads and bunds despite heavy expenditure. “The government’s purpose is clear — to serve people sincerely and ease their difficulties,” she added.
