Srinagar: The police on Wednesday issued a public advisory urging residents to refrain from using firecrackers during marriage ceremonies in Srinagar.
According to sources, on 21st September 2025, a suspicious object was discovered outside the Passport Office, Srinagar. The police promptly cordoned off the area and called in the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS). After a thorough inspection, the object was safely defused.
Investigations later revealed that the object was firecrackers reportedly used during a nearby wedding function.
The public is reminded that, as per Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives, firecrackers containing harmful chemicals are strictly prohibited. Violations will attract legal action under relevant laws.
Citizens are also cautioned against spreading rumours or misinformation regarding such incidents, as such actions may lead to strict legal consequences.
The Srinagar Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety, peace, and order.
