BGSBU Launches Campus Solarisation Project to Promote Sustainable Energy

RAJOURI: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has taken a significant step towards sustainability and environmental responsibility with the launch of its Campus Solarisation Project. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Science & Technology Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and the Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA).

Registrar Abhishek Sharma stated that a detailed survey has been initiated to enable the installation of solar power infrastructure across the campus. With a proposed capacity of 1 Megawatt (MW), the project is expected to substantially reduce the University’s dependence on conventional energy, lower electricity costs, and promote the use of renewable energy. The implementation team has scheduled the project for completion by March 2026.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma remarked, “The solarisation of our campus is a landmark initiative that will make BGSBU more energy-efficient and serve as a model for other institutions in the region. This project demonstrates our commitment to environmental sustainability and clean energy. We are thankful to the Science & Technology Department and JAKEDA for their support in turning this vision into reality.”

The BGSBU solarisation project aligns with the national agenda of adopting renewable energy for sustainable development and reinforces the University’s commitment to creating a carbon-neutral, eco-friendly campus.
