New York: US President Donald Trump claimed he was targeted by “three very sinister events” during his visit to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, saying the Secret Service would investigate the incidents.
Speaking to world leaders at the UN, Trump criticized the institution for “squandering its potential,” slammed European allies over their handling of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and condemned immigration policies he said were driving their countries “to hell.”
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump suggested that a series of unusual mishaps during his visit were not accidental but part of a coordinated effort.
According to Trump, the first incident occurred when an escalator carrying him and his entourage came to a “screeching halt.” He called it “absolutely sabotage” and demanded accountability. “The people that did it should be arrested,” he wrote.
The second disruption happened during his UN address, when his teleprompter reportedly went “stone cold dark.” While Trump implied foul play, a UN official—speaking anonymously due to the matter’s sensitivity—said the teleprompter was managed by White House staff.
The third alleged sabotage involved sound issues inside the hall. Trump claimed that attendees could only hear his speech through interpreters’ earpieces, and that his wife, Melania, could not hear him at all.
“This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage,” Trump declared, insisting the incidents were deliberate. He also urged the UN to preserve security footage of the escalator malfunction and confirmed that the Secret Service would investigate the matter.
