Jammu: Army Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma on Thursday conducted a review of the security situation and counter-terrorism operations in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.
Basantgarh, a hilly region linking Udhampur with Kathua and Doda districts through dense forests, has seen multiple encounters between Pakistani terrorists and security forces over recent years.
The most recent clash on September 19 resulted in the death of an Army personnel, while the terrorists managed to escape, taking advantage of the rugged terrain and dense foliage.
During the review meeting at Basantgarh, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command was briefed on the evolving operational landscape and emerging challenges.
“He urged all ranks to maintain the highest standards of operational readiness,” the Northern Command said in a post on X.
