Himayat lauded for shaping youth futures; expansion into agriculture sectors announced
SRINAGAR: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Department, Javid Ahmad Dar, today praised Himayat for creating a distinctive platform that empowers rural youth to develop skills and pursue independent futures.
Speaking at the Himayat Alumni Meet 2025 in Srinagar, where beneficiaries shared their success stories, the Minister noted that most participants came from humble backgrounds and achieved progress through resilience and determination. “Himayat provides rural youth with a unique opportunity to shape their skills and build independent futures,” he said. He added that in today’s world, skill is the true currency, not just academic qualifications.
Dar emphasized that skill development should now extend to modern farming techniques, soil testing, livestock care, and the application of artificial intelligence in agriculture. “Training our youth in these areas can spark a real revolution,” he said. Citing inspiring alumni stories, he urged young people to chart their own paths to success despite hardships, adding: “The essential thing in life is not conquering, but fighting back.”
Highlighting honesty, hard work, and discipline as foundations of lasting success, the Minister stressed, “Shortcuts never bring real achievements. Competition must be met with courage and preparation.” He also called for regular personality development programs alongside technical skill training to boost youth confidence and applauded the Seva Parv initiative (September 17–October 2) for promoting grassroots progress and youth empowerment.
Secretary, Rural Development Department & Panchayati Raj, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, described the event as more than an alumni meet, calling it “a journey reflecting the struggle and success of youth from remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir who have found a path to self-reliance through Himayat.” He added that the government tracks post-training progress to ensure placements and support wherever needed.
Asad announced that Himayat 2.0 will soon expand into sectors including agriculture, dairy, horticulture, and farming, providing rural youth with greater opportunities for success. He also linked the program to the nationwide Seva Parv campaign launched by the Prime Minister, which highlights empowerment stories and connects people with government schemes.
Chief Operating Officer of Himayat, Rajneesh Gupta, noted that over 34,000 candidates have been trained under the program, with around 15,000 successfully employed. The event was also attended by Director RDD Kashmir, Shabir Hussain Bhat; CEO IWMP, Rajnish Kumar; and other officials.
