NCW Chairperson Leads Mahila Jansunwai in Jammu

JAMMU: Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Vijaya Rohatkar, today chaired a public hearing for women (Mahila Jansunwai) under the ‘NCW Aapke Dwar’ initiative. The event aimed to address women’s issues and ensure speedy redressal of their grievances.

The hearing was attended by Deputy Commissioner Jammu, DIG Jammu, Director of Social Welfare Jammu, SSP Jammu, ADC Jammu, and other senior officials from the Police and Social Welfare Department.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson highlighted the objectives of the program, emphasizing that the hearing seeks to resolve long-pending cases and provide on-the-spot support to women facing difficulties, ensuring timely justice. She also mentioned that the NCW is conducting digital empowerment training sessions under its YASHODA–AI program and that the outreach initiative is intended to raise awareness among youth about gender equality and women’s rights.

Earlier, women from Jammu and nearby districts participated in the hearing, presenting grievances, particularly related to domestic violence, directly to the Commission. The Chairperson instructed the District Magistrate and SSP Jammu to prioritize resolving women’s issues and assured affected women that necessary actions would be taken on their complaints. Deputy Commissioner Jammu Rakesh Minhas and DIG Jammu Shiv Kumar briefed her on actions already taken on complaints received through various platforms and other pending cases.

Later, the Chairperson also chaired a meeting with senior officers of the Police and District Administration of Jammu Division. During the review, detailed discussions were held on women’s safety, gender sensitization programs, measures to combat violence against women, and implementation of new crime laws for women. DIG Police Shiv Kumar provided a status update on crimes against women and the steps being taken by police authorities.

The Chairperson appreciated the efforts of the police and district administration while stressing that enhanced coordination and continued dedication are essential to achieving the desired outcomes. She further urged the district administration to organize more awareness programs on these issues.
