Mumbai: Actor-producer Sohum Shah is teaming up with Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios for the highly anticipated sequel to his cult horror hit, Tumbbad.

Announcing the collaboration on Instagram, Sohum shared that his banner, Sohum Shah Films, is joining forces with Pen Studios to deliver what promises to be an unforgettable cinematic experience.

“We are thrilled to announce that Sohum Shah Films is partnering with Pen Studios, led by the visionary Dr. Jayantilal Gada, for the next chapter in the Tumbbad universe. This collaboration makes Tumbbad 2 not just a film, but a commitment to push boundaries, celebrate storytelling, and create a truly unforgettable experience. The journey begins! #Tumbbad2,” he wrote.

The news comes on the heels of the original film’s remarkable 2024 re-release, which shattered its initial box office records and even outperformed classics like Sholay, Mughal-e-Azam, and Rockstar in opening-day collections.

Reflecting on the success, Sohum Shah had said, “Tumbbad has been a special journey and a labour of love for us. The ongoing appreciation for the film is overwhelming and reaffirms our belief at Sohum Shah Films that content is king.”

Tumbbad, which debuted in 2018, followed Vinayak Rao (played by Sohum Shah) and his young son on a perilous nighttime journey, as they pursued a mythical treasure guarded by the malevolent entity Hastar. The film explored themes of greed and obsession, creating a dark, immersive world that captivated audiences.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi, Tumbbad set a high bar for Indian horror cinema. The sequel has been in development for several years, with production likely moving closer to commencement.
