Sinha urges J&K residents to unite against extremist propaganda
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday warned that narratives propagated by groups like the Terrorist Resistance Front (TRF) on social media pose a “serious threat” if left unchecked.
Addressing an event at Tagore Hall in Srinagar, LG Sinha urged the people of J&K to stand united against terrorism and actively counter extremist messaging to protect peace and stability.
“These narratives are being spread directly through TRF’s social media channels. Remaining silent is dangerous—we must pay attention,” he said.
He stressed that combating terrorism is not only the duty of security forces but also of citizens. “Over 40 lives have been lost due to terrorism. Its complete eradication requires both the forces and the active participation of the people,” he added.
Highlighting the region’s progress, Sinha said that despite decades of suffering, J&K is witnessing significant transformation. “Stone pelting is now a thing of the past, and local recruitment by terrorists is declining. Whenever there is division, we must try to restore harmony,” he noted.
Sinha pointed to major milestones since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 as pivotal to J&K’s development. He also cited initiatives like granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari community, strengthening the Forest Rights Act, and launching Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas as steps toward social and economic justice.
“Equal rights are now being ensured for the Pahari community. What is their right will be given to them,” he said.
He further observed that terrorism and left-wing extremism have declined nationwide, particularly in the northeast, and expressed confidence that Naxalism would soon be eradicated. “J&K has suffered for a long time, and ending terrorism is essential. Security agencies are doing their part, and as citizens, we must act responsibly,” he concluded.
