SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, today chaired a meeting of officers to review flood mitigation plans and river management strategies.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner SMC Fazlul Haseeb, VC LCMA, Chief Engineer I&FC, and officials from ERA, JTFRP, SDA, UEED, and other concerned departments.
I&FC officers presented a detailed overview covering Kashmir’s topography and flood issues, historical gauge data at Sangam from 1955–2025, the September 2014 floods and rainfall analysis, the Jhelum Basin Flood Management Plan, prioritization of post-2014 comprehensive flood management works, and key findings from CWC, CWPRS, and EPTISA models.
Discussions focused on the diversion channel from Jhelum near Sangam to Wular Lake, construction of flood walls at select Srinagar locations, re-sectioning of the flood spill channel, clearance of choked Jhelum stretches in Srinagar, sediment control basins on identified tributaries, flood zoning and land-use regulations, and erosion and sediment management measures.
