Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of his wife, successfully solving a month-old case that was initially treated as a natural death.

Tej Pal Singh, a resident of Mangnar village in Poonch and currently living in Trikuta Nagar Extension, Jammu, was taken into custody following an investigation prompted by a complaint filed by his sister-in-law, Sabina Sunuwar, on September 26, a police spokesperson said.

“In a remarkable demonstration of teamwork, scientific investigation, diligence, and professional expertise, the police have uncovered a murder that was initially reported as a natural death,” the spokesperson added.

According to the complaint, Sunuwar alleged that on August 26, Singh took his wife, Simriti, for purported medical treatment and returned the next day with her body. She claimed that Singh cremated Simriti hastily to destroy evidence, without conducting a postmortem or informing authorities.

Sunuwar further alleged that the deceased had endured cruelty, bore suspicious ligature marks on her neck, and had disputes with her husband over the purchase of a new house. “Photographs supporting these allegations were submitted,” the spokesperson noted.

Following the complaint, an FIR under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Bahu Fort Police Station.

“A professional investigation team, including the FSL and crime photography units, inspected the rented accommodation and collected crucial evidence. Witness statements were recorded, leading to the arrest of the accused,” the spokesperson said.
