Srinagar: Kashmir Police Chief V.K. Birdi on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of the security situation across the valley, emphasizing the need for proactive intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms to counter emerging threats.
Birdi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, chaired the meeting at the Police Control Room here, a spokesperson said. The session began with briefings from range Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIsG) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) on crime and security updates in their respective jurisdictions.
The review covered law and order management, ongoing counter-terror operations, and public safety measures. Discussions also addressed critical issues such as enforcement under the NDPS Act, achieving zero-terror recruitment, strengthening district-level security grids, property attachment proceedings against terror operatives, and other strategic priorities.
The IGP stressed the importance of closely monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation, propaganda, and anti-national content. On the narcotics front, Birdi directed intensified anti-drug operations, heightened surveillance of offenders, and active efforts to dismantle drug networks, while also highlighting community engagement and rehabilitation as key components of the anti-narcotics strategy.
A district-wise security plan was reviewed in detail, focusing on vital installations, sensitive areas, and inter-agency coordination. Birdi reiterated the need for proactive intelligence collection and swift response to emerging threats. He instructed officers to enhance area domination, conduct night patrols in sensitive zones, and maintain strict vigilance over anti-national elements (ANEs).
The IGP urged all personnel to remain alert, responsive, and people-centric in their approach, the spokesperson added.
