JAMMU: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Tuesday clarified that a viral video showing Ladakh Director General of Police S D Singh claiming that activist Sonam Wangchuk was arrested on the Defence Minister’s orders is a deepfake. The DGP has not made any such statement.
“A digitally manipulated video of Ladakh DGP Dr S D Singh is circulating on social media, falsely showing him claim that Sonam Wangchuk’s arrest was directed by the Defence Minister,” the PIB Fact Check unit said.
The unit warned, “Be cautious of AI-generated videos designed to mislead the public, create confusion, and incite panic.”
It also urged people to remain vigilant, verify content before sharing, and help prevent the spread of misinformation.
