Leh: Ladakh Lt Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday warned that no one involved in the September 24 violence would be spared, as he reviewed the condition of more than 100 security personnel injured in clashes with protesters.
Chairing a high-level security review meeting in Leh, the Lt Governor directed police officials to identify those responsible for disturbing peace and take strict action against them.
Four people were killed and several others injured during last Wednesday’s shutdown and clashes. Over 60 individuals, including climate activist and agitation leader Sonam Wangchuk—who is demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status—were detained. Wangchuk is currently lodged in a Rajasthan jail under the National Security Act.
“The law will take its firm course. Anyone attempting to disrupt communal harmony will face stringent action,” Gupta said.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Pawan Kotwal, DGP S D Singh Jamwal, senior Army and CRPF officials, and district administration officers, who briefed the Lt Governor on the situation, security preparedness, and inter-agency coordination.
