Srinagar: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have booked four habitual drug offenders under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, officials said on Tuesday.

After preparing detailed dossiers and obtaining the required approvals, authorities issued detention orders against the accused, who have been lodged in District Jail Poonch and Central Jail Kot-Balwal.

A police spokesperson said the offenders, all residents of Sopore and adjoining areas, have a repeated history of involvement in drug trafficking despite multiple arrests and preventive measures.

The accused have been identified as Owais Bashir Shikari of Sher Colony Sopore, Saraj-u-Din Parray of Parraypora Hadipora, Waseem Ahmad Mir of Aadipora Sopore, and Imtiyaz Ahmad Dhobi of Dangiwacha Rafiabad.

Police said their continued involvement in the narcotics trade posed a grave threat to society, necessitating strict action under the PIT NDPS Act.
