Javid Dar convenes consultative meeting with Fruit Mandi Associations to promote J&K horticulture growth

SRINAGAR: Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Departments, today chaired a consultative meeting with Presidents and office bearers of Fruit and Vegetable Market Associations from Kashmir Division at the Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing, J&K. The meeting focused on reviewing and addressing key issues in the horticulture sector.

Gh. Jeelani Zargar, Director of Horticulture Planning & Marketing, along with senior departmental officials, presented an overview of ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening post-harvest management, improving market linkages, and enhancing efficiency in horticultural marketing.

During the discussion, stakeholders highlighted concerns such as the need for additional Controlled Atmosphere (CA) storage facilities, standardization and availability of packaging materials, smoother transportation along the National Highway and Mughal Road, establishment of processing units, crop insurance coverage, strengthening of the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), promotion of e-NAM trading, and overall improvement of mandi operations.

The Minister listened attentively to the issues and assured that appropriate measures would be taken to address them. He underscored the importance of adopting modern, high-tech practices in horticulture to boost J&K’s economy and reiterated the Government’s commitment to collaborative efforts to fully realize the sector’s potential.
