SRINAGAR: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today chaired an extensive review meeting at the Civil Secretariat to assess the status of water supply and irrigation infrastructure in the Sonawari region.

The meeting focused on evaluating ongoing projects, identifying challenges, and formulating actionable measures to improve water accessibility. MLA Sonawari, Hilal Akbar Lone, along with senior officials from the Jal Shakti Department, attended the session.

Officials presented detailed reports on the progress of various water supply schemes, the condition of irrigation canals, and initiatives being undertaken to tackle seasonal water shortages.

Minister Rana emphasized the importance of timely completion of all sanctioned works, particularly in underserved and vulnerable areas. He directed the officers to accelerate developmental projects, ensure equitable drinking water distribution, and promote efficient irrigation practices to support local agriculture.

MLA Hilal Lone highlighted several constituency-specific concerns and urged the department to strengthen efforts in resolving public grievances.

The Minister assured full departmental support to enhance service delivery and infrastructure, reiterating the Omar Abdullah-led government’s commitment to sustainable water management in the Sumbal-Sonawari region.
