Nagpur: Former President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday expressed concern that “good people” are keeping away from politics and encouraged the youth to actively engage in the country’s political life.
Speaking as the chief guest at the annual Vijayadashmi rally of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at Reshimbagh ground, he highlighted the influence of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his life.
“I was deeply inspired by the values of national unity and social harmony championed by Dr. Ambedkar and Dr. Hedgewar. The RSS stands free of casteism and discrimination,” he said.
Kovind added that the founder’s vision helped him gain a clear understanding of society and the nation. Emphasizing the need for more ethical leadership, he lamented that “good people” are not entering politics and urged young people to take part in shaping the nation’s future. He also mentioned that he is currently writing a book titled Triumph of the Indian Republic.
The Vijayadashmi rally this year also marked the centenary of the RSS, which was established by Hedgewar on Dussehra in 1925.
