Dubai: Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold at the ILT20 auction.
Ashwin, who entered the auction with a six-figure base price of USD 120,000, was not picked during the accelerated auction either. However, he remains eligible to join a team as a wildcard signing.
The 39-year-old had registered for the UAE-based league after retiring from the Indian Premier League, which made him eligible to participate in overseas franchise tournaments. He had made himself available for the full season and recently signed with Big Bash League side Sydney Thunder, becoming the first high-profile Indian cricketer to join the competition.
Ashwin is also slated to represent Team India in the Hong Kong Sixes tournament in November. The off-spinner had earlier retired from international cricket midway through India’s tour of Australia last year.
Elsewhere at the auction, Dubai Capitals secured former Vidarbha off-spinner and Ranji Trophy winner Akshay Wakhare, while Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand, now representing the USA, was picked up by Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
