Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday addressed teachers, students, and participants during the Gandhi Jayanti programme at SKICC, calling upon the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively contribute to peace, development, and self-reliance in the Union Territory.
Congratulating attendees, LG Sinha said, “I extend my greetings to all teachers and students on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s Birthday. While the Seva Parv Swachhta Pakhwada concludes today, let us continue this spirit of cleanliness throughout the year.”
He emphasized Gandhiji’s teachings, stating, “Bapu always said, ‘Be the change you want to see in society.’ In 1921, he expressed his vision of a nation ready to confront challenges. Over the past 11 years, PM Modi has significantly transformed the country.”
Highlighting India’s progress, Sinha noted, “Fifty-one crore citizens are now covered under government life insurance schemes. India has emerged as the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer. Bapu’s Swadeshi movement is witnessing renewed momentum across the country.”
On the development of Jammu and Kashmir, he added, “J&K is steadily moving towards Atmanirbharta and Vikas. We must work together to transform the Union Territory. Gandhi envisioned peace in J&K, and now it is the youth who must fulfill his dream of a peaceful region.”
LG Sinha also acknowledged various community initiatives across the UT, including plantation drives, environmental awareness campaigns, wall paintings, cleanliness drives, and drug de-addiction programmes.
Concluding his address, he extended his greetings on Vijay Dashami, saying, “I wish you all the very best.”
