Leh: A Leh court has granted interim bail to 26 individuals arrested in connection with the September 24 violence, which left four civilians dead following police firing on protesters demanding Sixth Schedule status and statehood for Ladakh.
Scores of others remain in custody, while police continue to search for several accused in the unrest.
Court sources said the next hearing for the 26 bailed individuals is scheduled for October 4.
“The court granted bail after reviewing individual petitions. However, the trial is ongoing, and further proceedings will follow,” the sources added.
Mobile internet services in Leh remain suspended for the ninth consecutive day, causing mounting frustration among residents and businesses.
Meanwhile, police confirmed that dozens of people are still evading arrest. Several names are under investigation, and security agencies are conducting targeted searches to locate those believed to have instigated or participated in the violence.
The September 24 incident, in which four civilians—Jigmet Dorjey of Kharnak, Rinchen Dadul of Hanu, Stanzin Namgail of Igoo, and Tsewang Tharchin of Skurbuchan—were killed in police firing, has sparked widespread anger and political repercussions across Ladakh.
